Hurricane day - business as usual

Friday was actually the day of the hurricane, although it did not come in fury until the middle of the night.  During the day, the rain started and we started to see a bit of the wind.  This did not stop Don and Betty from taking us all round the area and planning the day with several relatives.  To me, it was amazing that life is lived as normally as possible in the shadow of an impending hurricane.  Did I mention that Don and Betty are great hosts!  We drove around the area for awhile and then we dropped in to see Carl and Grace.  Carl welcomed us in their home and gave us a tour of the dairy.

If Dale and Doris Heatwole are reading this post, this is another moose that Carl bagged and it is the reason the "other" set of antlers ended up over your fireplace.
We drove by Carl's son's (Joshua) place after visiting the dairy.  Hope this constructions makes it through the hurricane.

The next stop was at Wendall and Naomi's.  It was fascinating to see their little pecan operation and to chat with them in their home.

After lunch with Don and Betty, we had a wonderful time with Aunt Miriam and Uncle Howard in their home.  While we were there, the rain really started falling with the leading edge of the hurricane.

Our next visit was back at Don and Betty's place where we got to visit with Clay, Caroline and their little boy William.  Then we went over to Dale and Ruthie's house.  There, we had a fascinating visit and conversed with one of their friends who had grown up in Nazi Germany. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures here because of a phone issue.

We finished our evening, as we watched the hurricane get stronger, at the home of Michael and Ina Sue Strite.  We also enjoyed their children Carolina, Savanna, Claudia, Anika, and Landon.  These children were so much fun and we enjoyed a rousing game of Scum.  I think Yvonne and I spent the most time as Scum and Vice Scum.  :)

We returned back to Don and Betty's house and hunkered down for the hurricane.  See subsequent posts for hurricane stuff.
