We spent the morning at Chrissy's house trying to determine whether to go to the Denmark area. Why? Because hurricane Matthew (catagory 4) was bearing down on Florida, Georgia, and SC. There was rumor that some of the roads had already been changed to single direction roads. We called into Don and Betty (in the Denmark area, 50 miles from the Atlantic) and they informed us that we could probably make it out if we hurried before they changed the direction of the freeways. Later, we heard that they were evacuating everybody east of interstate 95. In any case, we arrived in the Denmark area by mid afternoon with no problems. We notices quite a bit of traffic coming out of the coastal area, but panic had certainly not set in yet.
We drove straight to Danny and Bonita's house and and had a wonderful time chatting with them before going to the larger family gathering (see subsequent post).
