Hurricane in Denmark, SC

Friday night, we were hunkered down with Don and Betty in their home.  It was difficult to sleep, knowing that the storm would hit soon.  The rain and wind picked up through the night and peaked somewhere around 3-4 AM.  Electricity went out, so the house was black, the water was out, and we could hear the fury of the storm.  As of this writing (Monday night), the power is still out in Don and Betty's home and I know that the excitement of the storm is wearing off.

When we got up, Don and Betty were already up and sitting in the living room.  Anthony was there as well with his two kids.  A tree had fallen on Anthony's Gator (4 wheeler). There were at least 3 pecan trees down on the hill, and other trees looked like they were "leaning".  The power was out, so we eventually decided to go out and explore the area, even though the wind and rain was still happening at a lower intensity.

This turned out to be the tree (or one of them) that pulled down power lines...
This is the tree that got the Gator...

At last, we were ready to leave, so that we could get to Statesboro, which is even closer to the action.  We loved experiencing all of this with Don and Betty and they were perfect hosts, tour guides, schedulers, and encouragers. We loved our time with these wonderful people.

On the way to Statesboro, we ran into several road issues like these...
